Hi everyone
It"s Kelli- typos and all. I was able to borrow Kati's laptop so I can connect with the outside world from the hospital. Not that I haven't enjoyed 24/7 of TV for the last three days. Ugh. I miss my peeps!
So, Kai has brought you up to speed on what's been going on. I've been fighting some kind of infection the last three weeks in one way or another. Tuesday it all came to a head in another case of peritonitis. Truthfully, we started to self medicate at home per the normal routine, but I was jit with a wave of pain that took my breath away. So, the nurse felt it best to hae me come be seen in ER.
Good thing.
Turns out I had several infections going- peritonitis, pancreatitis and bladder. Whew. So, they threw me in here for some therapy.
Now it appears the baseline of the infectiion is being caused by the same bacteria seen in cat bites. The problem is, its spread and in the peritoneum- which has no defese mechanisms to combat it. So, two things need to happen now.
One- I get to be on antibiotics for a long, long time to come. Second, I have to wait to see an infectious disease doctor (who happens to be on vacation this week, of course) so they will keep me until at least next week.
At worst I'll have surgery this weekend to removet he catheter from my belly (if they feel the bacteria is hiding in there and cannot be treated) and also have a temporary hemo access put in at the same time. Yeah- that surgery. The one I've been dreading. Double ugh. But, if we don't rid of the bacteria, it can kill me. Yeah- not going there.
The infection caused my red cell counts to crash, but they are starting to come back up. I'm feeling ok, other than bored to death. I've clocked about 6 hours sleep total since Monday night. It is near impossible to sleep in this place.
Thank you all for your prayers. THings could be a whole lot worse than they are. I know it's God's grace at this point.
As I can, I'll update things or have Kati do it :)
I miss you all. I'm excited to go spend some time catching up with you all now.
